Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Another Fish Story …

Another fishing season has come and gone folks … and it was a great final day to be out there on the Connecticut River.

Unfortunately, my day on the river didn’t really start until 4 PM, after leaving the grouse woods from chasing partridge and woodcock around all day (for the record, we had some great dog work today, and saw a good number of birds because of it).

Grabbing the switch rod and slinging Chuck Degray’s Gray Soft Hackle Streamer around, I managed to hook a large trout almost exactly in the same lie where I landed a four lb. brown a couple years before on, you guessed it … the final day of the season.

A feisty tussle ensued, but I only had him in for a matter of maybe ten seconds before he bid me “Adieu!” – gone, and that was it for my fishing season.  A few casts later I realized that was the best fish of my season, at least since March, and I was similarly done.

It was with some regret that I reeled up this evening, but the anticipation for next fishing season is already building, and I can’t wait.
