Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Tall Timber Fishing Report for April 2nd, 2016

Our friend Henry Longmire loves the winter fishing up here in Pittsburg on the Connecticut River and he works hard at it.  This beauty was landed last Thursday. Nice one Henry!

Our weather continues to be fickle. The temperature swings from 60 degrees one day to 30 degrees and snow the next. But that hasn’t stopped some die hard fishermen from being out on the river braving the elements. We know of a few that have been persistent (a little crazy) and hooked into some beautiful trout the last couple of days.

This one was taken on a White Soft Hackle Streamer below Murphy Dam.

Smelt pattterns are producing. Soft Hackle Streamers and a Floating Smelt are your best bet.

The Inlet at Lake Francis is now open and should start fishing well as the lake fills with Spring runoff. The landlocked salmon fishing shouldn’t be too far away.

The ice on Back Lake is changing daily but we have some cooold temps moving in the next couple of days so the ice will be around a while longer.  I spotted a pair of mallard ducks in a small section of open water on the shore of Back Lake this morning.

I can’t wait for Ice Out.
