It is dry fly time on Back Lake!  The Brown Drake and Yellow Drake hatches have started so it’s time to be out on Back Lake especially in the evening.

It’s the same drill as with the Hex Hatch. These mayflies hatch in the evening, which means the fishing gets good later in the evening.

In years past, I’ve seen people heading back to camp at 8:00 because they don’t think the hatch is going to happen. Just wait. It will happen. Don’t forget – the later the better. But for those of you that don’t want to be out on the water until dark, try fishing the lake early in the morning. Many times the fish are still keyed in on the hatch and the spinners. Fishing in the morning can be quite productive.

Jon, Charlie and I were out there tonight to check things out and around 8:00 the mayflies started popping off in huge numbers and the fish were going crazy. We were fishing off shore of the Guides Lot and I was fishing Jack Gartside’s  Sparrow, just casting it out and striping it back. Yes, I did get a bunch of bass, which are getting bigger by the way, and I also landed several nice rainbows and several brookies too. It was a great night.

So come on up. We have a few cabins open this weekend, and the TTL boats are ready to go too.  It’s time to be up here!
