There are a couple of signs of Spring that I relate to the beginning of the fishing season in Pittsburg, NH. One, when the leaves have sprouted on the trees and two, when the Trout Lily is in bloom. When I see those two signs, I know it is landlocked salmon time. I saw them both today so I said to Jon “let’s go fishing”. We headed to the First Connecticut Lake Inlet at Magalloway Road this afternoon.  On Jon’s second cast he had a nice 19 inch salmon followed by several other hits.  Then the sun came out and things came to a halt.  After a couple of hours I finally got a salmon. A 19 inch salmon….. the crazy thing is it was the same salmon that Jon landed. This salmon has a good size wound on it’s left side so there is no mistaking it. We have named our salmon Dumbo. If you run across Dumbo, please be kind because he looks like he’s been through hell.

Spring Streamer PatternsWe were using the usual smelt streamer patterns, the BH Gray Soft Hackle Streamer, Red Gray Ghost and Jon got a nice strike on a 9-3.

There were a few Blue Winged Olives in the air too.

The Trophy Stretch is producing some nice trout in the dam area,  Logging Bridge Pool and Junction Pool, and Lake Francis Inlet is also producing landlocks and trout.

If the ponds are your thing, you might want to try Moose, Middle and Round Ponds. Little Diamond is usually good early season as well.

There have been a few boats out on Back Lake the last few days. The lake has been stocked and things should start to get good this weekend.

So give us a call 1.800.835.6343 and we’ll set you up. The Grille will now be open seven days starting Wednesday. We hope to see you soon.
