NH Fishing Guide Dave Poole has been busy this week showing his clients how much fun fly fishing can be. That’s Susan Scarborough with a nice little rainbow she landed on the Trophy Stretch. Susan is new to the sport but has already learned to love it. Dave had her set up with a “yellow nymph” (that’s an egg pattern by the way…these guides can be so secretive at times) and she had lots of action fishing that egg.

The Upper Connecticut River: The Trophy has fished pretty good this week. Nymphs and streamers (Gray Soft Hackle) have been the way to go. The dry fly fishing should be starting any day now. Below Murphy Dam is still fishing well, and again nymphs, worm patterns and streamers are producing nice trout.  The dam flows are very good too.  Very wadeable.

The Outer Ponds: Most of the gates have been opened to access the outer ponds and I’ve heard that the fishing has been good at East Inlet. A couple of our guests kayaked East Inlet early one morning this week and saw 5 moose. Very Cool!! The outer ponds are always fun especially in the early morning or evening. You never know what you might run into.

Back Lake: I wish I had a report on Back Lake but I really haven’t heard much. Last weekend the wind was so bad that it kept everyone off the lake. There were quite a few rises out there this morning.  We are starting to count down the days to the Hex Hatch.  Can’t wait for that.

Hex Fly BoxTo make things a little easier for people fishing the Hex hatch, we’ve created a selection of our favorite “Go To” Hex patterns and put them all in a convenient fly box.  All the patterns you’ll need for a great evening on the lake.

This weekend is our first Fly Fishing School of the season. We have a couple of spots open if anyone would like to join the class. Give us a call 1-800-835-6343.
