Back Lake Hex Hatch Fishing Update: 6/28

The onslaught continues, and after last night, we’re nearing the peak of hex hatching activity on Back Lake now. While there were many hexagenia limbata coming off last night (the lake was boiling from 8:45 PM until dark), it was sometimes hard to figure out what life stage the trout were taking them at.

Back Lake Fishing Update: 6/21

While that is not our much sought after Hexagenia Limbata, it is a precursor of what is to come. This yellow drake was on one of our picture windows this morning, and usually signals that we’re nearing our favorite time of the summer.

Back Lake Fishing Update: 6/16

That was a small mayfly that landed on the brim of Karen’s cowboy hat last night while we were on the lake. Unfortunately, this was one of the few mayflies that we actually saw last night on the lake, and Mr. Hex was nowhere to be found … yet.

A blast from the past …

That right there is one of the original Tall Timber wooden boats – built way back in 1954 (by Herb Brown and/or Russ Hawes we think), and we had fifteen of them once upon a time. They were the battleships of Back Lake, especially at the end of the fishing season when we had to haul them out of the water for storage.

Upper Connecticut River Fishing Report: 6/11

We had a a rise in the river flows from the dams yesterday, and that led to quite a few of our guests having a good day on the river as well. Lots of healthy brookies were caught and released, and a big salmon too. Let’s hope the water keeps flowing strong!
