Connecticut Lakes Region Fishing Report: 5/31

Third Connecticut Lake yielded that nice laker that our guest Bob Poehlman and his son caught and released while trolling a couple of days ago. There have been some real nice trout and salmon caught on the Connecticut Lakes this spring, and we’re hoping that the river fishing catches up soon.

Pittsburg, NH Fishing Report 5-13-14

We’ve had a couple of beautiful days in Pittsburg the last few days, which we so deserved after a very long and incredibly cold winter. Today was such a beautiful day OMR and I decided “ let’s go fishing”. We loaded the drift boat, Charlie (our dog/son) and the fly rods and headed to Lake Francis Inlet. It was easy rowing for Jon with little wind, and there was only one other boat in the Inlet. Life is Good! We picked our spot to anchor and I think it only took a couple of cast before Jon had a salmon on. He was fishing a Gray Soft Hackle Streamer on a full sink line. He got another hit on the streamer but then nothing so we decided to move a little higher up in the inlet. Jon continued using the streamer = Zip, then switched to nymphs = Zip, so we went back where we had started in the deeper water. Jon was still running the nymph rig, and  it was fish after fish. I was on the net and I’ll tell you I was busy.

He was running a Tungsten Flashback Pheasant Tail with a Hatching Pupa as a dropper with a couple of split shot. The whole rig was running about 7 feet down. The fish were in the deeper water that had a little less current and right in the foam line. He got at least 8 salmon, two good sized and one nice rainbow.

There were a few Blue Wings coming off but no rising fish but obviously the fish were taking BWOs nymphs and emergers. The water temp was 48 degrees. Things are looking very good and the next few days the weather forecast will be great for fishing, and according to the Solunar Theory , the next few days are prime.

First Lake Inlet off Magalloway Road should be HOT this weekend with the great flow out of Second Lake Dam.

For the adventurous fisherman, the other inlets on Lake Francis like Bog Branch and Deadwater should be fishing well too. These inlets require a little bit of a hike in or are accessible by boat.

We had folks fishing Back Lake today and they promised me they will let me know what’s happening out there. Usually trolling a Golden Demon or a Yellow Hornberg is the ticket in May.

Come on up. It’s getting good!!

Connecticut River Fishing Report: 5/9

That’s the Inlet at Lake Francis, and there’s a lot of water in the inlet right now … cold water, like 40 degree water. This has made for some challenging trout and salmon fishing, and a slow start to our fishing season.
