Connecticut River Winter Warmer
Not too many suitable days for fishing lately, so getting out on some snowshoes yesterday and actually watching some moving water was the next best option.

Yup, that’s a “big boy fish” right there – a 12.5 lb. laker caught while ice fishing at Third Connecticut Lake in the far northern reaches of Pittsburg, NH.
Yup, that’s our boy and guide emeritus, Jon Howe (Old Man River) on last year’s trip to the Missouri River for some Montana spey casting instruction through Headhunters Fly Shop in Craig, MT.
That’s the girls from “Hope On The Rise” visiting the Tall Timber booth at The Fly Fishing Show in Marlborough MA today. The show started yesterday and will continue tomorrow so if you’re not doing anything before the Patriots game tomorrow, you might want to check out the show and say hello to the guys. Tom, Dave, Jon and Angus are having a great time talking fishing with lots of our guests and hopefully they’ve enticed a few new people to visit Tall Timber this fishing season.
GO PATRIOTS!!!
Today was nice … too nice for trout to actually bite with the high sun, but it was great to wade the river and practice casting anyway. Here’s Jon swinging a big streamer with his 12′ baby spey rod, showing me the right way to do things.
Jon is a “Ice Cream Junkie”. He probably goes through 3 to 4 half gallons a week. He did groceries today and look what he found. Ice Cream Nirvana…. Fly Fishing Fudge. Oh Yeah!!!
