Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Colonel Klink Would Approve

If he were with us today, Werner Klemperer (who played the beloved Colonel Klink on Hogan’s Heroes) would surely have used this great fly pattern on the Connecticut River: das “KLINKHAMMER“!

Connecticut River Lunker

Not just another “fish story” – this one actually has photographic proof, along with a witness. The lucky angler is Chuck DeGray from North Country Flies on a drift down the Connecticut River on Wednesday with our man Dave Poole. This 5 pounder was caught on a Zoo Cougar that Chuck specially tied, and still prowls the depths today.

Here Comes The Sun?

Tough weather the last few days, even if you were a duck. This hen mallard was playing the part of an umbrella for her brood when they were hanging out on the grounds this week.

Things are clearing, slowly today, so there should be another hex hatch update from tonight’s fishing on the lake. Tomorrow looks a little better and the weekend looks very promising.

Stop in if you’re in our area!

Connecticut River & Back Lake Fishing Report: 6/27

Smile Bruce! You just caught yourself a beauty!

Good friend Bruce Pilch caught and released this beautiful lunker of a rainbow last week during his annual pilgrimage to the Connecticut River. Actually, it doesn’t matter what body of water this trout is from, it’s a trophy anyway you cut it.

Hot Fun In The Summertime

Long time Tall Timber guest Butch Bouchard returned with his grandsons for the annual fishing trip on Back Lake this week. They had a great time, great weather (a little steamy the last two days), and some pretty good fishing too on the lake. As usual, it was great seeing Butch and the boys again and we look forward to their next visit.

Back Lake Hex Update: 6/16

Another spectacular night on Back Lake last night: clear, mostly calm, and quite a few hexagenias flying the friendly skies (when they weren’t being gulped down by hungry trout!).
